Richard Smith

Family Law Partner

Qualified 1998. Associate from 2007. Partner from May 2008.

Richard joined the family law team at Simpson & Marwick in January 2007 and is based at the firm's Edinburgh office.

He is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a Specialist in Family Law.

Richard graduated with honours from the University of Edinburgh in 1995 and qualified in 1998. He subsequently worked in the field of general civil litigation for five years concentrating on family law matters.

Richard decided to specialise in family law in 2003 and has practised exclusively in that field ever since. He has extensive experience in all areas of family law, particularly in relation to resolving complex financial matters between spouses and in the field of child law.

In the Chambers UK Guide to the legal profession Richard has been described as "a very prudent and pragmatic person", "personable and articulate yet can be tough when he needs to be" and it is said of Richard that  he "combines the hard edge of a litigator with complete concern for the best interests of the client".
