Planning
Following devolution in 1996, the Scottish Planning and Environmental Regulatory Regimes have been extensively reformed, and none of these reforms has made the systems any simpler. It is important to get off on the right foot when making any application, whether it be for Planning Permission, or for the Permit under the PPC regime. Concerns about European protected species, the Water Framework Directive, and the Strategic Environmental Assessment of all public sector plans, programmes and strategies have all complicated both the planning and the environmental permit systems. We can give skilled advice to assist permission strategies. We understand the pressures and issues facing Scotland's local authorities better than anybody, and are available for advice to both sides of the regulatory dialogue. If push comes to shove, and a Public Inquiry is necessary, we have unrivalled experience in appearing for local authorities, promoters, or objectors in the Public Inquiry context, and of the best way to present a strong case, ranging from a simple enforcement matter, an environmental prosecution, or a major proposal involving a lengthy Public Inquiry process.
