Containing one of Scotland’s foremost employment law practices, Simpson & Marwick provide the full range of employment law services to business clients and private individuals. Based primarily in our offices in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, the firm’s employment law team provide a resolution focussed approach to the provision of legal services. We are routinely instructed to undertake employment disputes in Employment Tribunals and the Employment Appeal Tribunal throughout the United Kingdom.

We are consulted by a wide range of clients ranging from multi-national plc companies, through smaller privately owned and owner-managed companies, SME’s, public sector organisations and private individuals. With a strong presence in the North East of Scotland, we act for many clients in the oil and gas industry and have built up particular expertise in that sector, including advising on jurisdictional issues, TUPE and offshore employment law issues. Whoever our client is, our aim is always, first and foremost, to help our clients avoid disputes, through the provision of practical, expert advice. When our dispute resolution service is required, we bring our firm’s collective wealth of experience in dispute resolution to the fore, to our clients’ benefit.

Our non-contentious support service provides employers in particular with access to expert training and guidance on the formulation and implementation of HR and employment law policies and procedures, assisting our clients’ internal HR teams to maximise value from the employment contract. In dealing with specific employment issues, our advice aims to provide clients with a solution that is compliant with employment law and also limits the risk of litigation. We give advice, not a list of options.

When disputes arise our clients have the benefit of our experience in dispute resolution, whether by conciliation, mediation or litigation. Our aim is always to provide our clients with a cost effective resolution.

Our expanding team of employment law specialists is led by Sandy Kemp, one of Scotland’s leading employment law practitioners. The team boasts two Solicitor Advocates in Sandy and partner Alan Cowan. The third partner in the team, David Hughes, is currently undertaking a course of training to become an Accredited Mediator. Sandy and David are also both accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as Specialists in Employment Law.
